About B.A.R.C - Akron Dog Park
BARC (Better Akron Recreation for Canines) is a non-profit organization, staffed entirely by volunteers. BARC operates and maintains the Akron Dog Park exclusively through charitable donations from visitors, the public and fundraising events.
In 2004, Akron Dog Park was created as a safe space where canine owners looking for Ohio dog parks could bring their dogs to exercise and socialize. BARC opened Akron Dog Park with land and initial seed money provided by the City of Akron. Currently, BARC continues to pay rent for the city owned land the dog park is on.
The aim of BARC is to represent Ohio dog parks by acting as a resource for dog owners and to provide not only a safe and welcoming location to socialize, but also an educational experience.
